Environmental information

This product's score is limited by its material type (the stretch-and-recover nature of fitness wear is currently best met by polymer materials). Assessment considerations: polyester is vegan-friendly and uses just one twentieth of the water in its production than is required for growing and manufacturing an equivalent cotton garment; there are environmental implications in how polyester items are produced (being mostly fossil fuel-derived) and because they can shed tiny amounts of material (micro-plastics) when washed, which can make their way to watercourses; we source polyester only from producers with the strictest practices and which are open to external audit; the material is agitated and scoured during production to capture micro-plastics that would otherwise be shed during the first few washes (which is when most are released), with the shed material safely recycled; more sales of this item will enable us to invest in increasing the use of recycled polymer materials (including plastic bottles and single-use bags).
